The ‘Delphinus Brooch’ is inspired by one of the dolphin constellation paintings in Abd al-Rahman al-Sufi’s Kitab suwar al-kawakib, “Book of the Images of the Fixed Stars”, a copy of which is housed in the Malek National Library and Museum. This amusing fish, standing upright and mirroring the positions of stars (the yellow dots on the fish) within the Delphinus constellation, represents a pre-modern Islamic understanding of this celestial body. It's a fascinating blend of imagination and scientific accuracy. Studio Toghchi, in collaboration with Shiraz-based artist Sareh Ansari, has beautifully recreated this celestial image as a brooch.
